Anne Hayfield was asked …to address training needs identified as a result of the introduction of Civil Partnership legislation.

Communication was swift and efficient, and Anne was very flexible over dates, times and locations.

The workshops themselves were well received and the feedback from our teams very positive. Handouts were excellent and well used after the Workshops themselves.

We were more than satisfied with the workshop sessions and their contents, and would certainly consider using Anne again for similar work.

Anne ran two workshops as part of the Loughborough University celebration of Black History in November 2005.

Having been involved in similar events, over a number of years, it is important that participants are engaged with the content and do not leave feeling guilty or embarrassed. Anne succeeded in putting over the subject in a positive and proactive manner. The consequence was that there were requests for more sessions, with further information on Black History.

Positive comments highlighted the interactive nature of the event, that people were able to be involved, the openness of the discussion, informality, group working and that the information was well prepared.

One comment was that it was the most interesting race equality workshop they had ever attended.

Anne skilfully teased out ideas on what participants thought Loughborough University should do, which were taken forward to help shape the future Equality and Diversity agenda.

Anne Hayfield played a significant part in the development and implementation of the Lesbian and Gay Equality Policy of Cleveland County Council.

Initially, Ann was involved in discussions with County Councillors and specialists from Education and Social Services about the advantages of and problems associated with the development of a detailed policy statement.

Once the policy was formulated and accepted by the County Council, Ann developed and then delivered the training programme to support the translation of policy into practice.

The training programme incorporated a variety of styles and was presented to senior County Councillors from all political parties, Chief Officers and all the Equal Opportunities Unit staff.

Whilst there had been some opposition to the policy at the County Council meeting, this was so effectively challenged and diffused at the training events that members of the opposition parties came forward with positive proposals for mentors arid a counselling service.

Anne Hayfield played a pivotal role in the development and acceptance of a progressive equalities policy for lesbians and gay men by Cleveland County Council. Her breadth of knowledge, understanding of people, training skills and obvious personal commitment ensured that everyone benefited from the process of putting this policy into practice.
